Rohrer & Klingner Powdered Asphaltum Is Suitable For Use In Etching Grounds And Stopping Out Varnishes. Asphaltum Is The Basic Ingredient In Most Etching Grounds And Is Naturally Dark In Colour. It Is Highly Resistant Against Acid. Hard Ground Can Be Made By Thinning The Asphaltum With Turpentine, And Then Adding Small Quantities Of Turpentine And Mixing Each Increment Until Smooth. Mix Approx 2 Parts Turpentine To 1 Part Asphaltum. Soft Ground Can Be Made By Combining Two Parts Liquid Asphaltum And One Part Of A Non-hardening Material Such As Wax, Petroleum Jelly, Or Grease. The Mixed Ingredients Should Be Heated In A Double Boiler And Allowed To Cool To A Paste-like Consistency.
