The Mirianshvili family built their first cellar on their property in Shilda village almost a century ago, although it was only in 2001 that Giorgi Mirianashvili founded the modern-day Chelti Winery here to produce and export top quality Georgian wines. The stunning 80 hectare estate has everything the family needs to craft their own wines, including expansive cellars set 7 metres underground and immaculate vineyards. As well as embracing modern winemaking technology, the family also uses traditional Qvevri or large clay vessels to produce their wines. This particular cuvee is a great example of a semi-sweet Georgian red wine crafted from their iconic Saperavi grape. The fruit is all sourced from the Kindzmarauli sub-region of Kakheti where growers must adhere to a strict set of regulations designed to ensure quality and consistency. On the nose expect plenty of rich, ripe fruit aromas including dark cherry, cassis, blackberry and plums along with hints of raisins, figs, and prunes. The first sip reveals a gentle sweetness, smooth tannins, and a streak of freshness which is characteristic of Saperavi and helps to balance out the residual sugar. A great choice to serve alongside dark chocolate, blue cheeses or fruit-based desserts.
