Product Description
Cellar for up to 8 years. Decant 1 hour before serving. The noble history of Chateau Purcari dates back to 1827 when the Emperor of Russia Nicholas I granted a special decree recognising the property as the first official winery in Bessarabia which is today known as Moldova. Set just 30km from the Black Sea, this winery enjoys ideal conditions for premium winemaking. This was realised as early as 1847 when the estate’s Negru de Purcari wine was awarded a gold medal at Bessarabia’s agricultural exhibition. A few decades later this wine was also awarded a gold medal at the Paris World Exhibition, ranking alongside France’s finest Bordeaux wines. Today Purcari is once again gaining the recognition it deserves with outstanding scores at the Decanter World Wine Awards including a gold medal for their iconic Negru de Purcari. This majestic red is crafted predominantly from Cabernet Sauvignon along with local Saperavi and Rara Neagră grapes which add complexity and intensity to the cuvee. The grapes are carefully harvested by hand at optimum maturity and the estate uses traditional winemaking techniques which have been used in this region for centuries. The young wine is then aged in French oak barrels to allow the tannins to soften and the different grape varieties to fully integrate. The result is a rich and robust red wine that is bursting with dark fruit flavours, spice, and toasted oak notes along with firm tannins and a very long finish.
