Product Description

In the crowded landscape of official memorial cover albums, VARIOUS ARTISTS' Luna Sea Official Memorial Covin manages to stand out, not necessarily for all the right reasons. This mishmash of interpretations of Luna Sea's greatest hits is like a musical fruit salad - some tracks are ripe and juicy, while others are a bit overripe and mushy. The album kicks off with a bang, as The Horrors tackle "Rosier" with their signature gothic flair. The haunting vocals and driving rhythm give the original a run for its money, setting the bar high for the rest of the record. Unfortunately, not every artist manages to reach the same heights. The down-tempo version of "End of Sorrow" by The XX feels a bit too sleepy, losing the urgency that made the original so powerful. However, there are some unexpected gems hidden within the tracklist. The jazzy rendition of "Desire" by Jamie Cullum adds a fresh twist to the beloved ballad, while Hot Chip's electronic take on "Believe" breathes new life into the classic anthem. Overall, VARIOUS ARTISTS' Luna Sea Official Memorial Covin is a mixed bag. While some tracks fall flat, others shine brightly, making it a nostalgic and at times surprising tribute to one of Japan's most iconic bands. It may not be a perfect listen, but it's certainly a journey worth taking for Luna Sea fans old and new alike.
