Grow your own delicious Gooseberry Giggles Gold! These hardy shrubs, supplied as 2x 9cm potted plants, will thrive in a sunny or semi-shaded spot in your garden. Plant in well-drained soil enriched with well-rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring a spacing of 1.5m (5') between bushes. Plant at the original depth, indicated by a mark on the stem. Remove any shoots or dormant buds from the base to prevent unwanted suckers.Water well, particularly during the first year, and ensure the soil doesn't dry out during hot spells. Remove any suckers as they appear. Netting is recommended to protect the developing berries from birds.Harvest some gooseberries in May for cooking and freezing, and leave the rest to ripen fully for fresh eating in June. Prune during winter, removing dead, damaged, and crossing stems, then thin the remaining stems to create an open, upright bush. Shorten the leftover stems by half.
