Remarkably strong and sturdy for their size, these lilies thrive in moist, well-drained soil, ideally neutral to acidic, and rich in organic matter.For optimal growth, enrich the soil with well-rotted manure or garden compost before planting to give your lilies the best start. When cultivating lilies in containers, a loam-based compost such as John Innes No.2 is highly recommended. Plant the lily bulbs at a depth approximately three times their height and spaced 15cm (6") apart. Deep planting provides essential protection for the bulb, particularly during hot spells.
